Where Is The Answer?

May 25, 2008

It really struck me again, when Jeffrey Sachs was part of the Start the Week program on Radio 4 a few weeks ago. As Andrew Marr probes, what Sachs is proposing is the silver bullet answer – that technology can solve things.

Sachs is right in calling Britain and the US ‘pathetic’ in not being able to build a power plant that stores the produced carbon dioxide safely, when in the same time that Bush has been in office, President Kennedy called for America to go into space, put a man on the moon and bring him safely home – and they did.

But the constant focus on problematic ideas such as carbon capture and storage – instead of finding ways to cut our carbon dependency – I do find frustrating.
