Al Gore

May 28, 2008

I just got round to watching Al Gore’s new powerpoint presentation here at the TED Conference.

Here’s a few of the most memorable statements he makes – and watch out for a painfully funny moment in the short interview at the end.

‘As important as it is to change the light bulbs, it is more important to change the laws.’

‘In order to solve the Climate Crisis, we have to solve the Democracy Crisis.

Advice for those with portfolios that are crammed with sub-prime carbon assets. ‘Junkies find veins in their toes, when the ones in their arms and their legs collapse. Developing tar sands and coal shale is the equivalent.’

‘How many generations have had the opportunity to rise to a challenge that is worthy of our best efforts? That has a challenge that can pull from us more than we knew we could do. I think we ought to approach this challenge with a sense of profound joy and gratitude!’

But most of all, ‘We have work to do.’
