Sarah Palin

September 2, 2008

I was rather smug when Sarah Palin was chosen as the other half of the Republican ticket – as I’d been tipped off about this a year ago!

However, what I was less pleased to find out about is her record on environmental and climate change issues. On her first day as Vice-Presidential candidate, she answered the following question,

What is your take on global warming and how is it affecting our country?

A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location. I’m not one though who would attribute it to being man-made.

So we have a VP candidate who doesn’t accept the Nobel-Prize winning science…

She also;

  • Sued the Interior Department over its decision to list the polar bear as a threatened species
  • Opposed a statewide ballot initiative to prohibit or restrict new mining operations that could affect salmon in the state’s streams and rivers
  • Has pushed to open Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling
  • Opposes a windfall profits tax on oil companies.

Let alone the fact that she believes intelligent design should be taught along with evolution in science classes (but that’s another matter!). Full details on Grist here
