Our Objectives

September 6, 2008

This is the second of a series posting the UK Youth Climate Coalition ‘Founding Documents’. Today, we declare our objectives (how to achieve our mission).

Our Objectives

1 – Inspire

We inspire young people into action by engaging with the youth-focused organisations they belong to. We communicate with them through our projects, public speaking and sharing resources and success stories.

2 – Empower

We empower young people to become the climate leaders of today.

We do this by:

  • Involving them in the global movement working for climate justice,
  • Supporting our member organisations’ capacity to carry out their own youth climate initiatives, through targeted training events and facilitation,
  • Training and educating young people at our annual Summer of Solutions programme,
  • Coordinating a UK youth delegation to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of Parties to secure a strong, legally binding global agreement.

3 – Unite

By uniting young people from different backgrounds, from all over the UK, we demonstrate that young people both care about, and demand action on, climate change.

Working together, young people are acting locally, nationally and internationally to organise actions, influence decision makers and implement concrete solutions. We are also part of the Global Youth Climate Coalition (currently being founded).

4 – Mobilise

Through mass days of action we speak out to government, business and individuals that our generation will not accept failure on climate change.

We use viral tools to creatively engage new audiences in the climate movement, and to demonstrate our common responsibility for the earth we live on.
