Ameliorate

October 4, 2008

I just came across Wordia – taking the success of wikipedia to the dictionary. The idea is to get people to upload short videos of themselves giving the definition of a word that means something to them.

This guy choose the word ‘ameliorate’. I’ve remembered that word far better than if I’d just read it, I’ve contextualised it, it’s become real – and I’m going to use it.

Now imagine doing this with people uploading a video of an action they take on climate change. Those solutions which might have seemed difficult, boring and foreign to us – suddenly become personal, inspiring and possible.

(And by the way – ameliorate means to improve.)
